Deuce to seven Lowball Game structure

Just like in five card draw, players get five cards dealt to them face down. After this there is a round of betting, players can call, raise or fold. Players that are still in the hand after this, have the chance to draw now. Cards can be discarded and traded for new ones (0 or 5 cards). When everybody has changed there cards, another round of betting is introduced. Players have the option to bet or fold. If there are no bets, players can check. After the betting round if there are still two or more players active, a showdown takes place, the player with the best hand wins.

In this game format, straights and flushes are counted for the low hand, and aces are always high, never low. The best possible hand is 7,5,4,3,2. Under here is a short summary of the possible hands someone can have (no complete list) from 1 (the weakest) to 16 (the best).

  • 1. J, 7, 4, 3, 2 (all the same suit – a flush)
  • 2. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 (a straight)
  • 3. 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 (a lower straight)
  • 4. 5, 5, 5, 6, 3
  • 5. 2, 2, 7, 6, 5
  • 6. A, 9, 6, 4, 2
  • 7. A, 8, 7, 4, 2
  • 8. A, 5, 4, 3, 2 (not a straight – ace-high)
  • 9. K, J, 8, 7, 4
  • 10. T, 7, 5, 4, 3
  • 11. T, 6, 5, 4, 3
  • 12. T, 6, 5, 4, 2
  • 13. 9, 7, 6, 4, 3
  • 14. 8, 6, 4, 3, 2
  • 15. 7, 6, 4, 3, 2
  • 16. 7, 5, 4, 3, 2

So in lowball high cards are bad, and you dont want flushes or straights because they are counted as high and you want to keep as low as possible with your card ranking.

2-7 triple draw

This is a draw variation on deuce to seven lowball. The only two differences are that there are three rounds of drawing and four rounds of betting instead of two and you need to have the highest hand, instead of the lowest hand without flushes and straights. The structure of the game now looks like this:

  • 1. Betting round #1, beginning with player to left of big blind
  • 2. Draw #1
  • 3. Betting round #2, beginning with player to left of button
  • 4. Draw #2 5. Betting round #3, beginning with player to left of button
  • 6. Draw #3
  • 7. Betting round #4, beginning with player to left of button
  • 8. Showdown (if necessary) If there are two or more hands with the same value the pot is split between them.
