Steve Wynn Buys $28 Million Popeye Statue

Share

Most people are probably aware of the fact that casino mogul Steve Wynn has got a lot of money, more than enough to be able to spend. Still it may surprise some that he spend a massive $28 million of those on purchasing a 2,000 pound statue of the iconic cartoon character Popeye.

The statue of Popeye was created and designed by the famous artist Jeff Koons and was expected to bring in around $25 million. But instead Steve Wynn decided to up the ante and pay a massive $28 million for the statue, maybe with the expectation of it increasing its value as Koons has only created a total of three statues.

Koons is well known for selling high valued statues, as he sold a “Balloon Dog” statue last year for a massive $58 million. With that price, Koons set the record for the most expensive art piece ever sold by a living artist and it seems that Wynn may have struck a good deal.

The Popeye statue will be placed by Wynn in his Las Vegas Wynn hotel, where exactly has not been disclosed yet however. The statue includes Popeye as we all know him, with big muscles, spinach and of course the pipe in his mouth.
