Dutch Gambling Regulator Slaps 15 Affiliate Websites

The Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has recently stepped up against 15 affiliate websites that allegedly were advertising unregulated online games of chance to players in the Netherlands.

The KSA investigated 22 websited of which the regulator concluded that 15 had breached the Dutch Gambling Act and therefore acted in violation of national law.

The identity of any of the affiliates or the sites they were promoting were not disclosed. Nevertheless 13 of the affiliate site could are risking a penalty, depending on their actions in response to the KSA warning.

According to the KSA, in some of the cases the affiliate immediately stopped advertising for unlicensed providers after it received a warning and switched to the promotion of licensed operators.

When investigation leads to the conclusion of a violation, the KSA fits issues cease-and-desist orders to affiliates, after which it carries out re-inspections to monitor activity. The next step will be a financial penalty should the illegal activities continue.

The KSA states that:

“Offering games of chance without a license is prohibited; the same applies to advertising games of chance that are not licensed. With affiliate marketing, sites receive money when they click through to the online game of chance and the KSA periodically conducts research into these advertisers.”
