Legislators are attempting to extend internet gambling with a new plan as the statute that governs it in New Jersey is set to expire in November. Recently, Senator Joe Cryan proposed Bill S4021, which targets the state's casinos and sports betting businesses' misleading and dishonest advertising. The proposed legislation aims to safeguard consumers from deceptive advertising and guarantee that advertisements do not target minors. Bill S4021 would compel license holders in New Jersey to make sure that their ads don't contain false or misleading information. The measure also complies with other US states' regulations by outlawing the targeting of minors in casino and betting advertisements. Sen. Cryan underlined the requirement for tighter laws, stating, "When you watch the ads, which are nonstop, I think most folks would say there's just too much of that." Debate Surrounding Casino Smoking Ban Continues The subject of indoor smoking at Atlantic City casinos has come up in conversation with the planned restrictions to gambling advertisements in New Jersey. While most venues are already prohibited from smoking indoors by law, casinos have been an exception to this rule for almost 20 years. But groups like Casino Employees Against Smoking's Effects (CEASE) have fought to ban indoor smoking at casinos. Despite rising support for a smoking ban in casinos, significant industry reforms have not yet been made. Progress has been sluggish, according to CEASE founder and dealer Pete Naccarelli. Although the proposal to outlaw smoking in casinos is supported by about 85 of the 120 members of the Assembly and Senate, meaningful progress could not be made before the legislative vacation that starts on June 30. While it's still unclear what will happen to the gambling ad restrictions and the casino smoking ban, its supporters are still holding out hope that more attention will be paid to them once the congressional recess is over. The regulatory environment for gambling in New Jersey is still changing as legislators strive to find a balance between consumer protection and business expansion.
