Tyler Patterson Claims Event #49 WSOP Title with Quick Finish

Tyler Patterson picked up his second WSOP bracelet by winning Event #49: $3,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em at the 2025 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He outlasted a field of 1,421 entries and closed the tournament with a $574,223 payday.

Good to know

  • Event generated a $3.79 million prize pool.
  • Patterson now has over $1.5 million in WSOP earnings.
  • Victory came after a key hand with pocket aces against pocket kings.

Patterson stayed calm and upbeat throughout the event, even playing a round of golf the morning of the final day. Backed by a group of close friends and his wife Carolyn, he capped off the win with a champagne toast—even though he was still on a juice cleanse due to a bet with a UK friend.

The poker pro from Washington, who has played since 2007, leaned on his early study habits and the support of long-time friend Matt Affleck to maintain a sharp game. Patterson explained that while he does not study game theory much these days, having people around him who do helps him stay sharp.

Big hand sets the tone

Momentum shifted strongly in Patterson’s favor when he picked up pocket aces against Connor Rash’s pocket kings. That hand gave him a large chip lead that he never gave up. When the heads-up battle began, Matthew Wantman was already short-stacked. Patterson kept the pressure on, and just a few hands later, the match ended.

Wantman, who holds more than $8 million in live tournament cashes, managed to hold on through a tough field, eventually finishing second for $382,774. At one point during the heads-up, he turned to the rail and shouted, “This guy is a ……. machine.”

The day started with 69 players and quickly thinned out. The final table kept the fast pace going, with few long pots and multiple short stacks pushing for doubles. English player Andy Wilson finished fourth, while Michael Walsh took third.

Patterson’s efficient run through the final six players added a second bracelet to his record and gave him even more confidence heading into the rest of the series.
