Sunday Funday Tournament Roundup 14 October 2013

Share

This last week took most of the live poker world into the UK for EPT London and France for WSOP Europe, but come Sunday, it seemed a lot more of them we’re logged on from inside online-poker-friendly borders.  Across the board, the Sunday majors were up with the big show, the PokerStars Sunday Million, seeing an increase of more than 400 runners.  While the Funday Majors were making semi-historic numbers, one player was locking up his spot at the final table of the online poker greats.  Chris “moorman1” Moorman, a week after eclipsing $10 million in online poker earnings, locked up a 17th online poker “triple crown” qualification taking down the Sunday Brawl.

Let’s see them all, top to bottom.

Sunday Million ($1,000,000 GTD) – PokerStars

Buy in:  $200+15     Entrants:  7,243 Prize Pool: $1,448,600

The Sunday Million held its place atop the Online Poker Majors by a long shot, unchallenged since Black Friday.  This week saw 409 runners drop an additional $81,800 into the prize pool creating a $1,448,600 total with a $217,294 first prize.  Despite the uptick in the field and the massive prize pool, the marquee names kept themselves out of the Million’s final table accolades with only Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee (34th – $3,013) and Stefan “Mattssons” Mattsson (36th – $3,013) making deep runs.  In the end, it was “danycou” that took down the whole first prize, besting Super Tuesday title holder “claffit” in a 90 minute knock down drag out duel.

An additional 52 players added $26,000 to the 500 this week compared to last week.  Not a bad uptick in what became the third biggest show on PokerStars and our list.   While “Ballertimes” took it straight out for $69,480, he had to do it over a baller field and final table which included Zach Clark in 2nd, Anton Wigg in 4th and Dani Stern in 8th.  Clark did not give himself any of the glory for the deep run though, telling iGaming.org “I ran like Usain Bolt on Steroids.” when asked about his Sunday Major success.  Getting close, but not being baller enough to hang with the varsity squad at this table were Zach “HustlerGrune” Gruneberg (11th – $4,053), Charlie “JIZOINT” Combes (12th – $4,053), Francis “The Lag rat” Anderson (13th – $3,281) and Mike “Pipedream17” Dietrich (18th – $2,509.)

$109 Sunday Rebuy ($225,000 GTD) – PokerStars

Buy in: $100+9 (RB)  Entries:  1005  Prize Pool:  $312,500

Rebuy mania took hold and kicked off a solid increase of 123 entries adding nearly $50,000 in the prize pool.  The prize pool shot past FTP’s big Sunday guaranteed tournament and paid off $52,343 to “KeyserMM” and “$47,343” to “filushh” when they made a heads up deal.  The two big winners made it past Marco “NoraFlum” Johnson (formerly CrazyMarco) and Aidan Tam who finished in 5th and 6th respectively.  Also going deep in the surprise #4 this week were Casey”Sobizzle21″ Sobczewski (12th – $3,281) and Artem “Artem205” Metalidi (20th – $1,406.)

A mere $14,800 uptick in FTP’s biggest tournament kept the upward trend alive in the Sunday majors and padded the $45,630 first prize at the top of a 3 way deal.  Urbanlights took that home, giving a cash 3rd and 2nd place spot to “Desmoplakin” and 2nd place cash paired with the 3rd spot to “Snusarn1.”  Brandon Barnes snapped off a 5th and Griffin Benger brought up the rear in 9th.  Going deep but falling short was Ravi Ravhagan (11th – $2,838) and foreshadowing something amazing was Chris Moorman in his seemingly tiny $1,560 score in 18th.

1 urbanlights $45,630*
2 Desmoplakin $36,873*
3 Snusarn1 $38,962*

Sunday 2nd Chance – Poker Stars

Buy in:  $200+15  Entrants: 1,322  Prize Pool:  $264,400

99 more runners needed a second chance this Sunday dropping almost $20k more in the prize pool.  Fresh off deep runs in the WSOP and WPT live circuits, Shannon Shorr showed up at the final table and took 8th, but it would be “rob1N_HooD” who would rob the rich and keep for himself in a heads up deal vs. “jonaj10.”  Not much personal data on the rest of the final table field, but Jonas “Telefonkiosk” Lindlof did make it to the final two tables (17th – $1,295.)

1 rob1N_HooD $42,839*
2 jonaj10 $35,845*
3 Akilla86uy $25,118

Sunday Supersonic ($125,000 GTD)

Buy in: $210.80+4.20  Entrants: XXXX  Prize Pool: $XXX,XXX

The Supersonic might burst the sound barrier, but it also busted the streak of increases in Sunday major prize pools and turnouts…probably.  For some reason the total entrants and prize pool are not available this week.  Where going to give it the benefit of the doubt and say it was about even, so as not to hurt its feelings in case I’m wrong.  Anyway – it ended in a three-way deal with “Icgodinho” taking the biggest chunk.  Also making the final table were David Peters (7th) and George Kapalas (9th.)  Here are the final totals.

1 Icgodinho $42,086*
2 Peacefulme07 $39,182*
3 Emilohlsson $37,569*
4 elde30cm $21,738
5 nemmad $15,217

7 David “dpeters17” Peters $9,420
8 zen_mec $6,521
9 George “gkap13” Kapalas $4,057

$200,000 GTD Sunday – PartyPoker

Buy in: $200+15  Entries:  1,160  Prize Pool:  $2232,000

Even PartyPoker saw an increase in its big Sunday guaranteed tournament with 33 more runners showing up creating a $6,600 bump in the total prize pool.  Getting the best of a four handed deal was “gnouhp,” netting him $28,726.  Sadly, friendship wasn’t magic for the whole final table as they only cut a deal after culling “MyL1ttlePony” from the heard.  Still, great to see our upward trend alive and well across all three major sites.

1 gnouhp $28,726*
2 DipesLIVES $24,402*

Sunday Brawl ($200,000 GTD) – FullTilt Poker

Buy in:  $240+15  Entries:  1,219  Prize Pool:  $243,800

A hair over 100 extra punters created an increase of a hair under $21k in the prize pool of this Sunday’s Brawl.  The biggest story coming out of it was Chis Moorman, as mentioned above, cementing his 17th Triple Crown with a $48,760 straight out win over the field.  An amazing feat that puts him 7 crowns higher than the number two contender and 10 more than the third.  (See more from Chris here)  Fellow high stakes grinder Chris Brammer made the final table but went out in 7th while Getty Mattingsley hit the virtual final table bubble and finished in 11th ($2,438.)

1 Chris “MoormanI” Moorman $48,760
2 ZealoT_uK $32,474

Funday Briefs:

Bach Beats Two in Two Days

Most of you are used to see hirsute, leather hatted David “Gunslinger3” Bach on the live felt taking down high stakes mixed games at venues like the WSOP.  However, this weekend, Bach’s march on the virtual felt continued after deep runs and a win in the WCOOP when he took down two (relatively small), big buy-in tournaments.  He topped 31 in the $215 Stud/8 and 60 in the $215 HORSE to finish the weekend with a tidy profit, showing off his stud and mixed skills again.
