MotorCity Casino in Detroit to Close Poker Room

Share

MotorCity Casino in Detroit has announced it will close its poker room on August 5 at 6 a.m. This decision comes without an official explanation, though the casino ended its Poker VIP program on July 1, as reported by PlayMichigan.com. It is a big change for local players, as it was a major hub for the poker community in Detroit, and one well known among celebrities looking to play poker.

Owned by Ilitch Holdings, MotorCity Casino is part of a portfolio that includes Little Caesars pizza, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Detroit Tigers. MotorCity’s poker room was the largest in Detroit, featuring 37 tables and cash games up to $20-$40, according to Poker Atlas.

Despite this closure, Detroit poker players still have options at other Detroit casinos. For example, the MGM Grand offers a 14-table poker room, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown has 10 tables. For those willing to travel, Caesars Windsor Casino in Ontario provides 85 tables with cash games and daily tournaments.

Other options for those playing would be online, popular operators offering online poker include PokerStars, BetMGM and WSOP.com.
