James Chen clinched his first World Series of Poker bracelet in Event #4: $1,500 Omaha 8 or Better, collecting $209,350. The tournament saw 928 entrants, creating a prize pool of $1,238,880. This was the largest field for an Omaha eight-or-better event at the 2024 WSOP.
Chen dominated from the start, finishing Day 1 with a massive chip lead among the 278 survivors. By the end of Day 2, he was third in chips among the final 22 players. After about seven hours at the final table, Chen defeated Lewis Brant in heads-up play to win the title.
“It’s great,” said Chen, a Pittsburgh resident, surrounded by supportive friends. “I play Omaha and its variants, mostly cash games, but at the World Series, I play tournaments.”
Chen had narrowly missed out on a bracelet last year, finishing second in the $10,000 Omaha 8 or Better event to Ben Lamb, earning $304,571. “Last year to come so close was disappointing, but this year to get it done was amazing,” he added.
At the final table, Chen’s performance was commanding. With four players left, he held over two-thirds of the chips and maintained his momentum to secure the win. “It was fun, the cards were hitting, I made a lot of hands, and it was great,” Chen reflected on his victory.
