George Danzer Wins WSOP Event #18 Seven-Card Razz Championship

The 18th event at the World Series of Poker has found its winner after three days of play and it was the German George Danzer who took the bracelet, title and first prize of $294,792. Seven-card razz is not a discipline that many amateur players truly master, so the 112 entries in the tournament had lots of prominent names such as Brian Hastings, Dan O’Brien and Daniel Negreanu.

It was Danzer’s first WSOP bracelet and he won it in the razz championship with the biggest buy-in to date. With 112 from start, 74 players made it to day two of the tournament while day three started with just 12 players. After a few hours of play the final table could begin and the players could begin to smell victory.

First player out from the final table was David Bach in 8th, followed by Naoya Kihara in 7th shortly after. Todd Dakake, Brian Hastings and Yuval Bronshtein were all eliminated relatively quickly after each other in 6th, 5th and 4th and then three-handed play could begin between Todd Barlow, Brandon Shack-Harris and George Danzer.

At this point Todd Barlow is very short-stacked, while Shack-Harris have around 70% of all chips in play at the table, making it easy for him to bully the other two around. But as things goes in poker, Barlow managed to double several times and ended up battling for the chiplead with Shack-Harris. Eventually Danzer joined the game and put some pressure on the two, busting out Barlow and then having a long heads-up match against Shack-Harris.

The final hand came in level 24 where blinds are 80,000/160,000 with a 20,000 ante. Shack-Harris paid the bring-in  and Danzer completes while Shack-Harris now raise only to get a re-raise back from Danzer. Shack-Harris calls and is now all-in and shows:

Danzer shows  and is drawing to a six. Danzer looks at his final card before slamming it into the table and show the  which gives him Ace to six. Shack-Harris would not be able to win with his final card which was a  and finished as the runner up for $182,155. Danzer took home $294,792 for his first place as well as his first bracelet.
