Costs for New Boston Casino on the Rise

It has been reported that the enormous Las Vegas-style casino project in the Boston area will cost more than initial estimates. Instead of the expected $2.1 billion, the Wynn Boston Harbor now needs an additional $300 million, according to an announcement the company made last month.

Wynn obtained a license for the casino in late 2014 and was permitted to start construction last year. However, the state’s Supreme Court has just granted approval to a lawsuit from the city of Revere that contests the transparency of the casino’s licensing process. As of present, the court proceedings are not likely to delay the project.

Next to a full-fledged casino with 90 poker tables, the complex will feature a hotel, a waterfront boardwalk, a conference center, a spa, a retail area, and food and beverage outlets.

Due to the increase in costs, Wynn’s management remain cautious as to whether gaming operations at the establishment will start by June 2020, as originally planned. If cost overruns and potential delays slow down the project, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission may suspend or revoke the casino’s license.
