Aaron “AJ” Cummings, from Montana, secured his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet by winning the $1,500 deuce-to-seven triple draw lowball tournament, Event #22. He outplayed 573 other competitors to take home $146,516.
Cummings’ previous best tournament result was a $34,979 win at the 2010 Fall Poker Round Up’s $500 main event at Wildhorse Resort & Casino in Pendleton, Oregon. With this recent success, his total earnings have now reached $230,000.
The event’s $766,290 prize pool was shared among the top 87 finishers, with Cummings being the only one to walk away with a six-figure payout. Several well-known players made it to the final tables, including three-time bracelet winners David ‘Bakes’ Baker (22nd place) and ‘Miami’ John Cernuto (19th place), Amnon Filippi (14th place), Jon Turner (12th place), and Danny Wong (7th place).
During the final heads-up match, Cummings held 8,925,000 chips, leading against Yuichi Kanai’s 5,425,000. Kanai briefly took the lead but soon fell behind again. In the last hand, after the third draw, Cummings bet, and Kanai called all-in with 10-8-7-5-3. Cummings revealed 8-6-4-3-2, sealing his win. Kanai received $95,981 as the runner-up.
