Thailand Parliament Could Debate Casino Bill by April 9

Thailand’s parliament could review the Entertainment Complex Bill for casino resort legalization as early as April 9, according to a report from the Bangkok Post on Monday. The update came from Wisut Chainarun, the Thai government’s chief whip. This would be just in time before the weeklong celebration of the Thai New Year, or Songkran.

The country’s cabinet approved the latest version of the bill on March 27, but it still requires discussion in the National Assembly before moving forward. Wisut, a member of parliament from the Pheu Thai Party, stated that lawmakers in Bangkok are waiting for confirmation on when the bill will be sent for review.

He noted that if the bill is not submitted in time for debate on April 3, it will likely be considered the following week. The Pheu Thai Party leads the current coalition government, and according to Wisut, members of the coalition are expected to support the proposal. However, discussions with opposition parties have yet to take place.
