Along with seven other people, former Royal Thai Police commissioner-general Pol General Torsak Sukvimol is the subject of an inquiry by Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The investigation centers on claims of bribes connected to illicit gaming businesses.
According to reports, throughout his term from October 2023 to September 2024, Torsak allegedly sought assets and money from eighteen gambling websites and other illegal enterprises. NACC Secretary-General Sarote Phuengramphan affirmed that there is enough evidence to proceed with the investigation, including witness statements. The matter is currently being aggressively monitored by the NACC.
The NACC is also scrutinizing a separate case involving Pol General Surachate Hakparn, the former deputy national police chief. Known as “Big Joke,” Surachate faces allegations of accepting bribes from gambling websites and engaging in money laundering. However, Sarote noted that additional evidence is needed to advance this case.
Surachate’s career has faced significant turbulence. In a royal command issued earlier, he was removed from his position, further fueling speculation about his involvement in corruption.
Torsak’s tenure was equally tumultuous. Suspended in March amid disputes with Surachate, Torsak returned to his role in June before being replaced by Pol General Kitrat Phanphet on October 1. These leadership changes have highlighted ongoing challenges in addressing corruption within Thailand’s police force.
The NACC’s investigation signals a serious effort to tackle high-level corruption tied to gambling operations. Moving forward, the commission aims to ensure accountability and transparency in handling these allegations.
