Resorts World is about to flip a major switch in New York. If final testing by the New York State Gaming Commission clears this week, the Queens property will open live table games on Tuesday, April 28, becoming the first casino in New York City to do so.
Good to Know
For years, Resorts World ran as a slots venue next to Aqueduct Racetrack. Now it is about to become something much bigger. Genting says blackjack, craps, baccarat, and roulette will go live next week, alongside thousands of slot machines and multi-million dollar jackpots, once state testing is finished.
That timing is a big deal. Resorts World won one of three downstate casino licenses in December 2025, and because the site was already operating, it could add live tables far faster than rivals. Metropolitan Park near Citi Field and the Ballys plan at Ferry Point are still years away from opening.
Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East, said:
“New York City has never seen anything like what we’re planning for April 28. Once the Gaming Commission’s final testing is complete, live table games will be open and operating right here in Queens for the first time in the history of New York City. We are ready to welcome New Yorkers to this exciting new experience.
“Resorts World now employs over 2,200 team members and has already doubled our workforce, and expects thousands more team members as the integrated resort is developed over the next three years. This is a transformational moment for Resorts World New York City, and we cannot wait to share it with our fellow New Yorkers.”
The labor ramp is huge on its own. Resorts World says the rollout added 1,250 jobs, including 950 new dealers. The property now has 2,200 workers and expects to move past 2,700 by summer. Its dealer school has already trained and hired more than 400 local residents, with another 500 graduates expected by May. A separate workforce program launched in 2022 has trained more than 350 local residents in gaming operations.
Opening day will lean into the moment. Queens rapper Nas is set to join Genting chairman KT Lim, elected officials, and community leaders for the ribbon cutting and ceremonial first dice throw.
Longer term, Genting is building far beyond a table game floor. The full project calls for 6,000 slot machines, 800 live table games, 2,000 hotel rooms, a 7,000-seat concert hall, more than 12 acres of public green space, a full-day spa, and an innovation campus centered on the Jet Center tied to Kenny “The Jet” Smith. Resorts World has operated in Queens since 2011 and says it has generated $5 billion for the state education system.
