Portsmouth officials celebrated a key construction point for The Landing Hotel, the $65 million project rising beside Rivers Casino Portsmouth.
Good to Know
The steel frame of The Landing Hotel now stands eight stories high next to Rivers Casino Portsmouth, giving city leaders a visible sign of the casino district expansion.
Mayor Shannon Glover confirmed during his State of the City address that the hotel remains on track for an early 2027 opening. The topping-off ceremony on Friday included the raising of a steel beam before crews placed it at the top of the structure. Glover said:
“Folks, as they have always done, they underpromised and overperformed. Remember when we opened this building in 2023? We are two years ahead of schedule.”
The Landing Hotel will bring 106 guest rooms to the casino site, with 32 suites included in the plan. The project also adds a lobby bar, two executive boardrooms, and other guest amenities.
Rush Street Gaming and Rivers Casino Portsmouth CEO Tim Drehkoff said:
“We’ll also have a sophisticated lobby bar, two new executive board rooms, and other amenities. We’re pleased to have the award-winning crew of Architecture and Interiors leading the design process.”
S.B. Ballard Construction Company is leading the build. Steve Ballard said crews remain ahead of schedule and have kept a strong safety record during the work. He said:
“This is Portsmouth, the working town, working people. A couple of hundred people are working here every day. They’ve been safe. We’re running a little bit ahead of schedule.”
City officials expect the hotel to support local economic growth through 200 temporary construction roles and 60 permanent jobs after opening.
Brian Donahue, director of economic development for Portsmouth, said the eight-story project also carries wider meaning for the city skyline:
“We haven’t had an eight-story building rise in our city in quite some time. I think it’s been decades since this has happened here in Portsmouth, but I can assure you there’s going to be many more to come.”
