According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, the state’s casinos brought in a total of $151.8 million in January 2025. There were some parts of the sector that saw good growth, even if this represents a little decrease of almost $1.5 million from the prior year.
Revenue from gaming operations at Maryland’s six casinos came to $63.7 million in January, a slight rise of 0.8% over the previous year. The highest-grossing casino in the state, MGM National Harbor, recorded a remarkable $67.6 million in revenue for the month, a 2.3% rise over January 2024. With more than 2,200 slot machines and 211 table games, the casino’s video lottery terminals (VLTs) generated $38.8 million in revenue.
Hollywood Casino and Rocky Gap Casino also reported year-over-year growth. Hollywood Casino generated just over $6.6 million, an increase of 1%, while Rocky Gap Casino posted $3.3 million in revenue, up by 3.8%.
Live! Casino & Hotel, which earned over $55.1 million, saw a 2.9% decrease compared to January 2024, placing it second in revenue among the state’s casinos. Horseshoe Casino experienced a larger drop, reporting $13.4 million in revenue, a decline of 7.8%.
Ocean Downs Casino experienced the smallest dip in revenue, falling by just $394,000 to $5.7 million.
The total casino revenue of $151.8 million in Maryland was driven primarily by VLTs, which contributed nearly $100.6 million. VLT revenue rose by 2.3% year-over-year, while revenue from table games dipped by 6.8%, generating $51.2 million.
Casino gaming revenues in Maryland are crucial for supporting the state’s Education Trust Fund and benefiting the local communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located.
