Several big online gambling companies, including Unibet, Betsson, ComeOn, and Bet365, are exiting the Norwegian industry. The action comes after the Norwegian gaming authority, Lotteritilsynet, started action against these firms in an effort to reduce unlawful gambling in the nation.
While Lotteritilsynet did not identify Kindred explicitly, it did allude to “the company behind Unibet.” Kindred’s other brands, including Mariacasino, Storspiller, and Bingo, are all quitting the Norwegian market through its affiliate Trannel.
Lotteritilsynet’s Director, Henrik Nordal, emphasized that the companies departing from the Norwegian market are not permitted to offer or market gambling services to Norwegian residents. The regulator believes that the withdrawal of several major gambling operators will contribute to a safer and more responsible gambling environment in Norway, reducing potential gambling-related issues.
Lotteritilsynet issued a warning that companies that do not voluntarily withdraw may face website blocks in 2024 as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal gambling in the country.
