Starting 1st March 2021, Google will allow additional gambling apps in the Google Play store in 15 more countries, including the US market. The update was recently announced by Google announced and includes real-money gambling and daily fantasy sports apps, such as online casino, lotteries and sports betting. This means that developers will also be able to advertise in the Play Store.

Just a few years ago, Google opened up the Play Store for online gambling operators in the UK, Ireland, France and Brazil. Now from 1st March 2021, operators from the following countries will be allowed to publish their apps with Google: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United States.

The online gaming industry is seeing rapid growth in the United States, and the distribution of their Android apps in the App Store will significantly help industry players. Undoubtedly, this news is a reason to celebrate.

So far, customers have only been able to download Android online gambling apps directly from operator’s websites. In order to do so they often had to bypass phone security settings and update their gaming apps manually. Now, Google will help operators to reach a wider audience more effectively.

It is unsure if Google will also bring any rules regarding app design and UX, similar to Apple’s Design Guidelines. It is advised however that all app owners create their apps with the latest design trends and as much native functionality as possible.
