Share

Macau’s gaming industry is gradually picking up pace again, with the government pulling in over MOP45.26 billion ($5.59 billion) in gaming tax revenue during the first half of 2025. While the increase compared to last year is small, it reflects stable performance as the region’s casino sector continues its recovery.

Good to know

  • Gaming tax revenue for H1 2025 is up 1.05% year-on-year.
  • MOP8.15 billion ($1.01 billion) was collected in June alone.
  • First-half gaming taxes now cover 48.6% of Macau’s full-year target.

According to the Financial Services Bureau, tax revenue from gaming between January and June 2025 hit MOP45.26 billion. That brings Macau to nearly 49% of its full-year gaming tax goal.

In June specifically, the government collected MOP8.15 billion ($1.01 billion) in gaming taxes, a 4.83% increase compared to the same month in 2024.

GGR growth continues

The modest rise in tax revenue tracks closely with gains in gross gaming revenue. June’s GGR came in at MOP21.06 billion ($2.6 billion), up 19% year-on-year. Across the first six months of 2025, total GGR reached MOP118.77 billion ($14.69 billion), representing a 4.4% increase from the same period last year.

These figures suggest steady foot traffic and sustained interest from tourists, even if growth remains moderate.

Macau’s tax structure on gaming has not changed. Under the 10-year concession system that began on January 1, 2024, the effective tax rate on casino GGR remains at 40%. This setup continues to be a major contributor to the region’s overall public revenue.
