Italy is making major changes to its online gambling industry. The Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM), Italy’s gambling regulator, is introducing a new framework for online gambling licensing. This proposal, part of the “Reorganization of Gambling” decree, aims to increase regulations and raise licensing fees.
The proposed changes focus on better control and transparency. The licensing fee for online gambling operators will rise from €200,000 to €7 million for a nine-year concession. This increase aims to deter unserious operators and ensure only financially stable companies enter the market.
Besides financial requirements, the new framework imposes stricter rules on IT security and game integration. Operators must have their games and IT systems independently certified. This ensures player protection and fairness in online gambling.
Another key change limits operators to one brand per license, ending the practice of using multiple brands under one license. This will simplify regulatory oversight and compliance.
These reforms are expected to significantly impact the Italian online gambling market. The higher costs and stricter rules will likely push out less reputable operators, leading to a market dominated by reliable and financially secure companies. This should improve the overall quality and user experience for Italian players.
