Casinos in Maryland generate record revenue

Last month was record-breaking for casinos in the state of Maryland. The four privately owned casinos in the state — Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County Hollywood, Casino Perryville in Cecil County, Maryland Live Casino in Anne Arundel County, and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County — managed a combined revenue of $77,850,831.

In data released by the state authorities this was stated as an all-time high. The largest one – Maryland Live Casino generated $61,785,159 from that number. Comparing on a year-to-year basis — if Rocky Gap Casino Resort were excluded (as they opened in May 2013) — casino revenue increased from March 2013 with $15,818,127, or 27.3%. Casinos were authorized in Maryland in 2008 for the first time in the state’s history.

March 2014 also saw $2,715,091.05 from non-banked table games. Maryland will soon become the home of a brand new casino in Baltimore, which is a Caesars Entertainment project and one more at National Harbor in the county of Prince George, owned by their major competitors MGM Resorts International.

MGM could start the construction process this month, while Caesars is already in the middle of construction.

The state is also looking at the online gambling industries of more traditional gambling locations such as Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey, a state official shared with journalists as they look to one day legalize itself.
