ACMA Blocks Multiple Illegal Gambling Sites in Australia

Share

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has recently discovered and restricted access to a number of online gambling websites in an effort to reduce unlawful gaming activity. The Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 of Australia was violated by several websites, which included Viperspin, Just Casino, Betandplay, Play Fina, and Comic Play Casino.

ACMA’s Action Against Illegal Gambling

The regulatory authority in charge of policing media and communications in Australia, ACMA, has adopted a stern position against illicit gaming establishments. Australian citizens who use these illegal gaming services are not covered by Australian law, the ACMA said in a formal statement. If problems emerge, such delays in prizes, this lack of legal remedy may be troublesome.

The ACMA has asked Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to prohibit access to certain illegal gambling websites as part of its enforcement strategy. The ACMA has several enforcement options at its disposal, including website blockage. Sites that operate without licenses, offer illegal services like online slots or in-play sports betting, or advertise unlawful services may be subject to enforcement action.

Growing List of Blocked Websites

The most recent ACMA action is another blacklisted gambling and affiliate website in Australia, which is a growing list. With these most recent additions, the total now stands at an impressive 835 websites. Additionally, since the ACMA started implementing stronger restrictions for offshore gaming in 2017, 215 unlawful gambling services have left the Australian market.

In recent months, it has become clear that this proactive strategy to reducing illegal gambling is working. Crown Pokies and Play AUD had their accounts blocked in August for breaking the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001. ACMA imposed restraining orders against Reef Reels, Royal Reels, Ricky Casino, Slots Gallery, and Slotastic earlier in July. Following the banning of three sites in May and 12 sites in June, these steps were taken.

The Australian government’s dedication to upholding the integrity of its gambling laws and shielding its citizens from potentially dangerous or uncontrolled gaming operations is reflected in the continuous work by ACMA.
