The Venetian Arena in Macau is set to host two NBA preseason games in 2025, featuring the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns. Scheduled for October 10 and 12, these games are part of a multi-year agreement between Sands China Ltd. and the NBA. The announcement was made on Friday by Sands China, the event promoter.
Under the five-year partnership, the NBA will bring two preseason games annually to Macau. Speaking about the collaboration, NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum said, “By hosting preseason games in Macau, we have an opportunity to showcase the excitement of the NBA to fans in one of the world’s emerging hubs for sports.”
The Venetian Arena, recently upgraded, is ready to host these high-profile events. Grant Chum, president and CEO of Sands China, highlighted the arena’s history, stating, “Sands China has been a pioneer in bringing major international events to the city: starting back in October 2007 when we hosted two NBA teams in a preseason game at the Venetian Macao, shortly after the integrated resort’s opening.”
He further emphasized the venue’s transformation, noting, “The Venetian Arena has just been fully renovated and upgraded and will be the home to the NBA China games from next year onwards.” Chum also pointed to the company’s long-term efforts, adding, “Our consistent efforts in bringing world-class events and entertainment over the years have demonstrated our enduring support for the goal of positioning Macau as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
Patrick Dumont, president and COO of Las Vegas Sands Corp and governor of the Dallas Mavericks, spoke about the NBA’s global appeal. “Sports and sporting events have long been an important part of Macau’s tourism efforts,” Dumont said. Reflecting on his personal connection to basketball, he added, “A year ago, our family became the majority owner of NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, and I’ve been able to experience firsthand the passion and dedication of NBA fans. NBA basketball has the power to attract and inspire people from all over the globe.”
Dumont expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “Sands is honoured to bring the NBA China Games to Macao so that the most elite level of basketball can be experienced directly by the fans who are so passionate about it.”
Beyond the games, the collaboration will include fan activities, youth programs, and interactive community events. The Venetian Arena will also host an exhibition game featuring basketball legends such as Tracy McGrady, Ray Allen, Tony Parker, Stephon Marbury, DeMarcus Cousins, and Cuttino Mobley. These players were introduced at Friday’s press event.
As part of the lead-up to the games, Sands China plans to open an NBA Flagship Store at The Londoner Macao, offering official merchandise. The casino operator also announced an NBA Fan Day during game week, featuring celebrity performances and opportunities for fans to engage with the teams.
The partnership with NBA China aims to promote Macau as a global destination for sports and entertainment. The games will be broadcast to over 200 countries and territories, ensuring widespread visibility. Sands China, as the official integrated resort partner of NBA China, remains committed to delivering memorable experiences for fans
