Tennis Official Juan Gabriel Castro Suspended for Six Years Over Corruption Violations

Share

Juan Gabriel Castro, an official from the Dominican Republic, was fined $6,000 and suspended for six years by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) twelve times. His participation in score manipulation during three games, which allegedly supported unethical practices, is the source of the infractions.

A Deemed Sanction under the 2025 TACP regulations resulted from Castro, a national-level official, failing to reply to ITIA’s notice of accusation. This clause gives the ITIA the authority to impose sanctions on those who refuse to take part in investigations or arbitration.

Suspension Details and Restrictions

Castro’s ban will be in force until November 6, 2030, with his temporary suspension beginning on November 7, 2024. He is prohibited from officiating or attending any tennis events that have been approved by major governing bodies such as the USTA, Wimbledon, ATP, WTA, ITF, Tennis Australia, and Fédération Française de Tennis during this time.

Additionally, he had ten days to contest the sanction in front of an impartial Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer, but he chose not to do so.

Established to “promote, encourage, enhance, and safeguard” the integrity of professional tennis, the ITIA is an independent organization committed to maintaining the sport’s reputation. It maintains fairness and openness in international competitions by imposing stringent restrictions.
