Stake, known as one of the most popular global platforms for online casino and sportsbook gaming, has launched support for passkey login — offering users a faster, simpler, and far more secure way to sign in.
Good to Know
Passkeys replace traditional passwords with verification through fingerprints, facial recognition, or a trusted device PIN. The change means players can access their accounts almost instantly without typing long credentials or dealing with one-time security codes. It also closes one of the biggest doors to phishing and credential theft.
Andrew Forte, Stake’s Head of Product, explained the motivation behind the rollout:
“In an industry where trust and security are paramount, the move to passkey was an obvious next step. We’re setting a new benchmark for player protection and convenience, removing password risk and proving that the most secure experience can also be the easiest.”
The system follows the globally recognized FIDO authentication standard, already adopted by Microsoft, PayPal, and other tech giants. Data from Microsoft shows passkeys deliver a 98% success rate — three times higher than passwords. PayPal’s transition to passkeys led to a 70% reduction in account takeovers, reinforcing the security benefits Stake aims to replicate in iGaming.
Speed is another major advantage. Google reports that passkey authentication takes roughly 15 seconds, while traditional password logins can double that time. With Stake processing more than 100 billion bets annually, especially during live events, quicker login times ensure smoother, uninterrupted play.
The rollout began in mid-September and is being extended gradually across user accounts through Stake’s settings page. Once activated, players can log in using fingerprint sensors, Face ID, or device PINs depending on their device compatibility.
