Chris Eubank and Conor Benn are set to face off on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, but the fight has already started outside the ring. A heated press conference on Tuesday saw Benn accusing Eubank of owing Brazilian soccer star Neymar Jr. £4 million ($5.1 million) in poker debts. “Do you know why you need the money?” Benn said. “Because you’re shit at poker. He owes Neymar four million quid. That’s why he’s taken this fight.”
Eubank, a former International Boxing Organization super middleweight champion, has been involved in the poker scene for years. As a former 888poker ambassador, he has played in major poker events, including the World Series of Poker and the Brazilian Series of Poker. He has also participated in live-streamed high-stakes games, including sessions on Hustler Casino Live. Neymar, a PokerStars ambassador, has a passion for poker, with more than $32,000 in live tournament winnings and an estimated $300,000 in live-streamed cash games.
Eubank refused to address the poker debt claim directly but quickly turned the conversation to Benn’s history. He brought up Benn’s 2022 failed drug test, where he tested positive for clomifene, a banned substance. Benn was later cleared by the World Boxing Council, which stated that “elevated consumption of eggs” was responsible for the result. Eubank was unconvinced. “One thing I do know is you’re a drug cheat,” he said.
The press conference nearly erupted into chaos when Eubank smashed an egg on Benn’s face, mocking his drug test defense. Security had to step in before the altercation turned physical, and Eubank Jr now risks a punishment for this.
Beyond the personal attacks, the fight carries historical weight. Their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, had their own rivalry in the 1990s. Eubank Sr. won their first bout in 1990, while their 1993 rematch ended in a draw. Now, their sons will settle the score in the ring.
Eubank enters the fight with a record of 34-3, including 25 knockouts. Benn remains undefeated at 23-0, with 14 knockouts. The fight will be broadcast live on DAZN pay-per-view in more than 200 countries.
Chris Eubank Jr. is the favorite going into the fight, while Conor Benn is the underdog. Currently, the odds at BetUS are set at -150 for Eubank Jr. and +120 for Benn. A $100 bet on Eubank Jr. would return you a $66.67 profit, while a $100 bet on Benn would return a $120 profit if he wins.
