Ontario Grants DAZN Bet Sports Betting Approval

Ontario has issued an online sports betting and iGaming registration to a subsidiary of sports streaming company DAZN. The approval allows DAZN Bet to prepare for entry into the regulated Ontario iGaming market.

The registration was listed Friday on the website of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Launch timing has not yet been confirmed.

The approval represents one of two required steps before an operator can go live in Ontario. In addition to regulatory registration, operators must execute a commercial agreement with iGaming Ontario.

Once that agreement is finalized, DAZN Bet would be cleared to offer online sports betting and internet casino games to Ontario players.

If DAZN Bet enters the market, Ontario would have 50 regulated iGaming operators, counting the online gambling platform run by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.

Hiring Signals Market Entry Plans

DAZN has been preparing for a Canada entry for several months. In December, DAZN executive Daniel Berthold shared a LinkedIn post indicating the company was hiring a country manager to lead the Canadian launch.

“A true zero-to-one role: shape the marketing strategy, lead the team, drive growth and define how Canadian fans experience DAZN Bet from day one,” Berthold wrote.

The hiring effort pointed to an Ontario focused rollout tied to the regulated iGaming framework.

DAZN Background and Betting Expansion

DAZN launched in 2016 and has become a major sports streaming platform. In Canada, the service holds NFL media rights, offering live games, RedZone, and NFL Network coverage.

DAZN has also expanded into online betting in recent years. DAZN Bet currently operates in the U.K., Spain, Italy, Germany, and France. Ontario appears positioned as one of the next regulated markets for the brand.
