In April, New York witnessed a significant surge in sports betting activity, with the total handle reaching new heights. At $1.96 billion, the handle soared by 27.3% compared to April last year and marked a 6.0% increase from March’s figures. This impressive total ranks as the fifth-highest monthly spend in the state’s history.
Accompanying the surge in handle, gross gaming revenue from sports wagering also experienced a notable uptick in April. Reaching $183.8 million, the revenue jumped by 32.4% compared to April 2023 and rose by 21.2% from March’s earnings. Despite this growth, the record remains at $211.5 million, established in January this year.
Leading the pack in New York’s sports betting scene, FanDuel, owned by Flutter Entertainment, continued its strong performance in April. The operator reported $91.0 million in revenue, backed by a $780.5 million handle, maintaining a comfortable lead over its competitors.
DraftKings emerged as FanDuel’s closest competitor, posting revenue of $63.2 million from a $737.0 million handle. Meanwhile, Caesars secured the third position with $10.4 million in revenue from $158.8 million in total bets. BetMGM and Fanatics followed closely behind, rounding off the top five.
Rush Street Interactive stood out among other operators, generating over $1.0 million in revenue from $67.1 million in bets. However, Resorts World and BallyBet fell short of the $1.0 million mark, while Wynn Interactive trailed behind with minimal revenue despite considerable betting activity.
