More Schools Could Be Caught in Basketball Game-Fixing Investigation

Share

More schools may be involved in an expanding college basketball game-fixing investigation, according to reports. The probe, which initially focused on former NBA player Jontay Porter and former Temple guard Hysier Miller, now includes Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier for his actions in a March 2023 game.

Authorities are looking into a potential game-fixing network that spans both college and professional basketball. Multiple college teams might also be under investigation, according to Sports International. However, representatives from several schools reportedly connected to the case have not yet been contacted by investigators or the NCAA.

One source familiar with the situation suggested that the NCAA is waiting for law enforcement to complete its inquiry before taking any action, which aligns with its approach to past cases.

Rozier, who played for the Charlotte Hornets from 2019 to 2024, is under investigation for possible game manipulation during a March 2023 matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Wall Street Journal reported that this is part of a broader probe involving gamblers and poker players.

Jontay Porter was banned from the NBA and pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges in July as part of the same investigation. Rozier has not been charged or accused of any wrongdoing.

Federal officials have also been investigating Miller since November 2023 for allegedly manipulating NCAA basketball games. A March 7, 2024, contest involving Temple and UAB was flagged by sports betting monitoring company U.S. Integrity due to unusual wagering activity. The organization alerted the American Athletic Conference and sportsbooks nationwide after noticing significant line movements throughout the day.
