The gambling sector expects significant gains as the new Trump government promises a business-friendly environment. This view was reaffirmed during a panel discussion at Friday’s National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS) convention.
Republican control of Congress and Donald Trump’s victory indicate a lax approach to federal oversight. Bill Miller, president of the American Gaming Association (AGA), expressed optimism about the new administration’s goals. Miller said at the NCLGS meeting that the influence of business tycoons like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will likely reduce federal pressure on industries like gambling.
“There isn’t going to be a federal department of gaming with Elon and Vivek,” Miller remarked, emphasizing the administration’s pro-business stance.
The casino industry is still in favor of state-level regulation since it thinks this approach has worked for many years. Miller cited the prosperity of commercial casino gaming outside of Nevada and New Jersey as proof of effective state regulation.
Industry officials have opposed federal initiatives, such as a recent sports betting legislation bill that sought to impose more rules and restrictions on advertising. Miller emphasized that previous federal administrations respected state sovereignty when it came to regulating gaming. He anticipates that the Trump administration would do the same, letting states keep their existing systems in place.
Miller acknowledged the possibility of difficulties despite the optimistic outlook. The political environment is changing as a result of the new Congress, which has 60 new House members and 10 new senators. He did note, though, that many of these lawmakers have prior state legislative experience and probably have knowledge of gaming-related legislation.
Miller said he was confident the industry could continue to enjoy good conditions under the incoming government. Miller clarified, “We’re pushing for an open door generally because they respect what we mean in the states where we are.”
Due to a combination of state-level regulation and a federal government that is willing to encourage corporate innovation, the gaming industry is nevertheless hopeful about its future expansion and stability.
