The Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) in Washington, DC, is pleased to announce the launch of FanDuel, which will replace the existing GambetDC app. This represents a major change in the sports betting environment in the city.
FanDuel is not just going to be available online; there are also plans to launch the platform in physical stores before the end of the year. The four-year deal that FanDuel has with the District promises to be a game-changer for the sports betting industry in the city.
Following the cessation of wager acceptance on GambetDC on April 15, users have until October 15 to withdraw their funds from the platform, ensuring a smooth transition for existing users.
Given the District’s significance as a political hub, access to the FanDuel app will be restricted across federal locations, including iconic landmarks like the White House, Capitol, Congressional office buildings, and Rock Creek Park.
FanDuel aims to contribute a minimum of $5 million in tax revenue to DC between July 2024 and July 2025, with aspirations to double this figure in the subsequent year. Over the course of the four-year contract, FanDuel anticipates generating $45 million in tax revenue, projecting a substantial impact on the city’s finances.
Frank Suarez, Executive Director of OLG, lauded FanDuel’s launch, emphasizing its role in providing residents and visitors with a top-tier sports wagering experience. Suarez highlighted the revenue generated from FanDuel’s entry, earmarked for vital city programs, underscoring the platform’s broader community impact.
FanDuel’s entry follows the recent launch of the Elys Sportsbook at The Ugly Mug, marking the fourth Elys Sportsbook to debut in DC, subject to approval from the District of Columbia Office of Lottery and Gaming (DCOLG).
