With the Office of Lottery and Gaming’s permission, several operators launched their platforms in Washington, DC, ushering in a new era for digital sports betting. With this development, the city’s gambling scene has grown significantly, improving accessibility and participation for sports fans.

After the DC Council approved the FY2025 budget with provisions for digital sports betting, big operators such as FanDuel, Caesars, and BetMGM did not take long to launch their online gambling services. Following a brief delay while the city’s budget was awaiting Mayor Bowser’s signature, this action was taken.

BetMGM’s Perspective

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenbalt expressed excitement over the launch, highlighting the company’s commitment to delivering top-notch sports betting experiences across the District. “After three years of enhancing the sports fan experience and supporting the community through our partnership with the Washington Nationals, fans can now bet on their favorite teams with BetMGM’s acclaimed mobile app,” Greenbalt affirmed.

Eric Hesslon, President of Caesars Digital, emphasized the profound passion of DC sports fans and the company’s dedication to deepening their connection. “Expanding access to our mobile sports betting app across the District will only enhance their fan experience,” Hesslon noted. He also extended gratitude to city officials for their leadership in advancing sports betting opportunities.

Through a collaboration with Monumental Sports & Entertainment, Caesars has provided in-person sports betting at Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals, since 2021. For those who enjoy sports betting in the area, this location has grown in importance.

However, BetMGM is still offering in-person betting within two blocks of Nationals Park by virtue of its exclusive agreement with the Washington Nationals baseball team. Sports bettors may now be more easily accessed in the center of the action thanks to this advantageous position.
