Connecticut Considers Joining Multi-State Poker Network, Eyes Sports Betting Limits

Share

Legislators in Connecticut are debating a major overhaul of the state’s internet gambling regulations. The House General Law Committee filed SB01464, a bill that would limit sports betting bets and expand online poker, on March 6.

Connecticut would be able to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) if the legislation is approved. This would allow the state’s online poker businesses to combine their player pools with those in West Virginia, Delaware, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Players from Connecticut could gain access to higher prize pools, more competition, and larger tournaments by joining this network.

The bill also defines a “peer-to-peer casino game” as one where players compete against each other, rather than against the house. Operators would generate revenue through associated fees rather than traditional house wins.

Uncertain Sports Betting Limits

Alongside online poker expansion, the bill includes language about setting maximum wager amounts for online sports betting. However, it does not specify an exact cap. The lack of a clear limit leaves uncertainty about how restrictive the new regulations might be.

Currently, Connecticut has three online sportsbooks:

350% or 5BTC + 150 Spins!
New players only. Exclusive Welcome Bonus of 350% + 150 Free Spins
Casino

  • FanDuel (partnered with Mohegan Sun)
  • DraftKings (partnered with Foxwoods)
  • Fanatics Sportsbook (operating under the Connecticut Lottery)

The debate over betting limits remains contentious, with sportsbooks and bettors often opposing restrictions that could affect wagering freedom.

The bill also introduces additional safeguards for bettors. It requires operators to provide a toll-free helpline for users experiencing account issues. Additionally, if an operator discovers an error in posted odds, they must immediately suspend betting on that event and issue full refunds for affected wagers.

With online gambling evolving rapidly, Connecticut’s proposed legislation could reshape the state’s poker scene while addressing concerns around responsible betting. The final decision now rests with lawmakers as they evaluate the bill’s impact.
