The remarkable sports betting numbers for July have been released by the Arizona Department of Gaming. Bets in the state totaled $410.1 million, a significant increase of 26.9% over the same month the previous year.
This rise has been mostly attributed to mobile sports betting, which has added almost $404.5 million to Arizona’s overall handle. A little over $5.8 million was added by retail establishments. In July, major operators dominated the mobile betting market. Caesars, DraftKings, BetMGM, and FanDuel led the pack with a combined wagering volume of nearly $350 million.
DraftKings emerged as the top performer for the month, amassing more than $146.4 million in online bets. Additionally, the operator garnered nearly $1.5 million from its retail locations. Following closely was FanDuel, which saw over $125.8 million in online wagers. BetMGM and Caesars also performed well, with online sports wagers reaching $47.7 million and $25 million, respectively.
Arizona sports bettors enjoyed substantial success, cashing in nearly $367.6 million in winnings throughout July. Of this amount, $362.5 million came from mobile bets, while approximately $5.1 million was won at retail locations. The operators reported a total revenue of around $41.5 million for the month.
In addition to the operators’ earnings, the state collected approximately $2.9 million in privilege fees during July, further boosting its revenue from sports betting.
For almost three years, Arizona has promoted a sports betting environment that is legal and separate from tribal gaming. Following Governor Doug Ducey’s signing of the legislation into law, sports betting became legal in the state in April 2021. In September 2021, Arizona’s sports betting market made its official debut, paving the way for the sector to expand quickly.
Arizona’s sports betting market is still thriving, with a wide variety of providers and rising participation. Particularly, the increase in mobile betting is indicative of a national trend as more participants choose the ease of betting from their phones.
