At the next iGB L!ve conference in Amsterdam, a pioneering research on women’s sports and sports betting is scheduled to be released. The significant gaming industry exhibition will deliver the “Breaking Barriers: Assessing Women’s Sports Growth, Betting Trends, and Integrity Challenges” report on July 12 during its return to RAI Amsterdam from July 11 to 14.
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), the All-In Diversity Project (AIDP), Entain, Flutter, and Stats Perform have all collaborated on the study. Together, they aimed to comprehend the growth of five sports for women: volleyball, basketball, cricket, tennis, and tennis.
The focus on betting patterns in women’s sports and the analysis of sports integrity during a time of increasing interest in women’s events are what distinguish this study from others. The development of women’s sports and its ramifications for the sports betting industry and sports integrity were stressed by IBIA CEO Khalid Ali.
In anticipation of presenting the study’s findings at iGB L!VE, Ali remarked, “With the Women’s Football World Cup scheduled to begin in July, this is a great moment to start the conversation about women’s sports, betting, and integrity.”
The study’s findings support a notable increase in women’s sports’ popularity during the previous five years. This tendency is evident in events like the 2018 Women’s Euro final, which drew a record-breaking crowd of 87,192 spectators, and the 2019 Women’s World Cup, which received 1.12 billion total viewers across all platforms.
Notably, there has been a significant increase in interest in women’s soccer, with over 1 million tickets already sold for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which is expected to break previous attendance and viewership records.
Nevertheless, this increase is not limited to soccer. As mainstream broadcasters increasingly see the enormous potential of women’s sports, women’s rugby and cricket are also experiencing global appeal and garnering record audiences and viewers.
Sponsors and investors are becoming increasingly interested in the expansion of women’s sports. In 2023, the Women’s Premier League received one of the greatest financial infusions in the history of women’s cricket when five franchises were auctioned off for more than $570 million, thanks to the assistance of prestigious companies like Visa.
The research explores how the rapid growth of women’s sports is affecting the number of bettors, the amount of bets made, and the features of women’s sports betting in addition to examining the rise of women’s sports.
The report also discusses possible challenges to the integrity of women’s sports, such as different match-fixing schemes, the standard of competition, the parties engaged, and the financial and sporting repercussions.
The growing market for sports betting in women’s sports was noted by Dr. Sören Dallmeyer, a professor at the German Sports University. The institution’s responsibility in carefully examining this expansion is to spot any risks to sports integrity and come up with workable solutions.
Professor Henry Steinfeldt of the German Sport University in Cologne will give the study’s findings before a panel discussion about the study’s implications for the sector. Vasileios Bountzouklis, Commercial Manager-Betting, Stats Perform; Silvia Paleari, Director of Public Affairs, IBIA; and Christina Thakor-Rankin, Co-Founder of the All-in Diversity Project, will all contribute to the conversation.
Christina Thakor-Rankin emphasized how the growth of women’s sports is attracting a new generation of bettors who approach sports betting differently than do male gamblers. To maintain the security of clients, athletes, sports betting operators, and the sport itself, it is essential to comprehend this dynamic environment.
The presentation of this ground-breaking study will be one of the iGB L!ve event’s major highlights. The exhibition will be 30% bigger than the previous year with 14,805 gross square meters devoted to goods, education, and networking. There will be a total of 207 exhibitors, which is a 20% increase from the previous record high.
The iGB L!ve 2023 is slated to be a gathering that will provide priceless insights, networking chances, and conversations that will influence the gaming industry’s future, particularly in relation to women’s sports and sports betting.
