Sports Bettor Banned by FanDuel After Track Harassment

Share

FanDuel has banned a bettor from its platform after he targeted Olympic sprinter Gabby Thomas with insults during a recent track event. The man, who posts online as “mr100kaday,” heckled Thomas during the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia and then claimed his actions helped him cash a winning bet.

Good to know

  • FanDuel permanently banned the user following his behavior at the track meet.
  • The bettor bragged on social media about betting against Gabby Thomas.
  • Concerns about harassment from sports bettors have been growing in recent years.

Standing near the starting line for the women’s 100-meter race, “mr100kaday” shouted phrases like “You’re a choke artist” toward Thomas before the race began. He later posted video footage of the moment on X, formerly known as Twitter, and claimed that heckling her helped his parlay win.

He shared a bet slip showing a $1,700 win on a parlay that included Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Kenny Bednarek winning their respective 100-meter races. Thomas later called attention to the incident herself, writing, “This grown man followed me around the track as I took pictures and signed autographs for fans (mostly children) shouting personal insulted. Anybody who enables him online is gross.”

FanDuel responds and issues ban

Following public backlash, FanDuel responded by permanently banning the individual from using its platform. “FanDuel condemns in the strongest terms abusive behavior directed towards athletes,” the company told ESPN. “Threatening or harassing athletes is unacceptable and has no place in sports. This customer is no longer able to wager with FanDuel.”

Bettor denies account ownership

Despite FanDuel’s statement, “mr100kaday” denied having an account with the sportsbook. He claimed his role is providing betting advice and picks for clients. “Fanduel … made it seem like I’m banned from them when I don’t even have an account!” he tweeted. “I sell picks and consult with others who [are] looking for good sports knowledge.”

He also refers to himself as “the track and the field bully” online, suggesting he views this as part of his online persona.

Athlete harassment remains a problem

The incident adds to growing concerns about athlete abuse tied to sports betting. In recent years, athletes across different sports have spoken out about harassment from bettors. MLB pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. received death threats from a gambler, and the NCAA has encouraged states to restrict certain types of betting, especially prop bets involving college athletes.
