Seminole Tribe and West Flagler Partners Settle Dispute

Share

Officially, the lengthy legal disputes pertaining to the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s gambling activities are over. An important development is the agreement that Isadore Havenick, Bonita-Fort Myers Corporation, Southwest Florida Enterprises, Inc., and West Flagler Associates, LTD have struck with the Tribe. They promise not to bring any more lawsuits about the Tribe’s gambling operations as a result of this deal.

New Ventures and Jai Alai Promotion

The partnership includes intentions to establish and promote wagering on Jai Alai through the Hard Rock Bet app, as well as to settle legal issues. This project, which is planned for early 2025, would showcase a fresh cooperative endeavor in Florida’s gaming industry. With an emphasis on a common objective of promoting Jai Alai, a sport with strong roots in Florida, the relationship signifies a change from conflict to collaboration.

Federal litigation started these legal issues in 2021 after Governor Ron DeSantis authorized online gambling for the Seminole Tribe. While one lawsuit questioned a Florida Constitutional amendment, another said that the arrangement violated the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Voters must approve this amendment before gaming can be expanded in the state.

Additionally, this agreement follows a U.S. Supreme Court decision in June, which dismissed a challenge to the agreement granting the Seminole Tribe exclusive rights to operate online sports betting in Florida.

Jim Allen, CEO of Seminole Gaming, expressed optimism about the new collaboration, stating, “This is truly a win-win agreement for the Seminole Tribe and West Flagler. This agreement establishes a relationship of collaboration among the Seminole Tribe and West Flagler in the State of Florida.” He emphasized the importance of working together instead of engaging in protracted litigation.

Isadore Havenick also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Seminole Tribe in support of their gaming operations in Florida and to promote Jai Alai, which has been a critical component of Florida’s gaming industry since the 1920s. We are proud that Jai Alai will be featured on the Hard Rock Bet app and we look forward to developing a strong partnership with the Seminole Tribe.”

This agreement marks a significant step forward for both the Seminole Tribe and the involved parties, laying the groundwork for enhanced gaming opportunities in Florida.
