Pennsylvania’s gambling industry started the year with strong revenue growth. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported $529.1 million in total gambling and fantasy contest revenue for January. That marks an increase of nearly 11% compared to the same month last year.

Casinos played a major role in the growth. Combined revenue from Pennsylvania’s casinos reached $210.1 million, rising more than 40% year-over-year. Retail slot machines contributed $187.8 million, up nearly 5%, while table games added $73.7 million, reflecting a smaller 1.5% increase.

Sports betting generated an $873.1 million handle for the month, slightly surpassing last year’s numbers. However, taxable revenue from sports betting declined. The state collected $51.5 million in taxable revenue for January, a drop of over 26% compared to the previous year.

Pennsylvania remains one of the biggest gambling markets in the U.S., with casinos, online gaming, and sports betting contributing to consistent revenue. While sports betting taxable revenue dropped, overall growth in casino gaming helped push total revenue past half a billion dollars.
