By signing a significant contract with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), PENN Entertainment has made it possible for its subsidiary, PENN Sports Interactive, to provide ESPN BET online market access in Washington, D.C. Both sides will benefit greatly from this collaboration, particularly as it makes ESPN BET the official sports betting partner of MSE’s teams, such as the Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Capitals (NHL), and Washington Mystics (WNBA).
Under this multi-channel agreement, pending regulatory approval, the partnership will enable ESPN BET to integrate deeper into the local sports scene. As Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer at MSE, stated, “We are thrilled to join forces with PENN Entertainment and align with ESPN BET, a leading brand across the sports and entertainment landscape.” He added that the collaboration aims to enhance fan experiences with innovative sports entertainment options, both inside and outside the arena.
The new partnership also aligns with Aaron LaBerge, Chief Technology Officer of PENN Entertainment’s vision for growth: “We are proud to partner with Monumental Sports and its teams to unite the energy of D.C. sports with our world-class platform.” LaBerge emphasized the importance of reaching one of America’s most passionate sports communities, with the collaboration positioning ESPN BET at the heart of the action, where sports, technology, and fan engagement intersect.
A number of chances to improve the fan experience are also included in the deal. Through media and in-arena elements, ESPN BET and MSE will work together to seamlessly integrate their brands. Notably, Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) will air Capitals and Wizards games with ESPN BET. The agreement gives ESPN BET the intellectual property rights to MSE, the Capitals, the Wizards, and the Mystics in addition to broadcasts. This comprises:
