A new chapter has started for the London Hippodrome as the casino introduced a Paddy Power sportsbook beneath its Leicester Square venue, blending retail betting with entertainment.
Good to Know
The Hippodrome’s basement has been redesigned into what Paddy Power describes as a “sports fan’s heaven.” Visitors can watch matches on a massive curved high-definition screen, backed by dozens of smaller displays across the lounge.
At the center is a 360-degree bar, surrounded by gaming tables, video poker, darts, and a burger bar that adds to the social vibe. The space has been designed as more than a betting area—an entertainment hub for sports enthusiasts.
The opening night carried Paddy Power’s well-known playful style. Guests were treated to live music from a string quartet, magicians roaming the floor, and appearances from sports figures including Peter Crouch and Fallon Sherrock.
Hippodrome Executive Chairman Simon Thomas welcomed attendees, calling the sportsbook “a dream realized.” He credited the Gambling Act Review with enabling the project by giving casinos greater flexibility to expand offerings.
For Paddy Power, the project reflects a renewed push into retail betting. Rupert Elwood, Managing Director of Retail, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“We are extremely satisfied with the project and optimistic about its impact on London’s betting landscape.”
Each guest received £200 in complimentary chips to test the facilities, with all winnings donated to charity—a gesture that reinforced the celebratory mood while also supporting good causes.
