Kansas sports betting saw a strong start to 2025, with the state reporting a total handle of $301.8 million in January. The numbers show a continued shift toward online wagering, which made up $293.2 million of the total. Retail sportsbooks contributed just $8.6 million, reflecting a broader decline in in-person betting across the industry.
DraftKings, operating through Boot Hill, led the online market with $123.4 million in settled wagers and $7.9 million in revenue. FanDuel, which runs through Kansas Star, followed with $96.5 million in bets and $5.7 million in revenue.
Other operators also posted strong numbers. BetMGM handled $25.6 million in online wagers, while Fanatics reported $20.6 million. ESPN Bet, which partners with Hollywood Casino, recorded $13.4 million.
Retail sportsbooks accounted for only a small share of the total handle. ESPN Bet’s Hollywood Casino led the retail market with $6.2 million in wagers, far outpacing Kansas Star, which took in $1.5 million. DraftKings’ Boot Hill and Caesar’s sportsbook at KS Crossing posted lower figures.
For the fiscal year through January, Kansas reported a total handle of $1.61 billion, with $1.56 billion coming from online bets. DraftKings remains the top operator, processing more than $717 million in online wagers, while FanDuel follows with nearly $489 million.
The steady growth in online betting comes as Kansas keeps an eye on regulatory changes in neighboring Missouri, where lawmakers are discussing sports betting legislation. If Missouri legalizes wagering, Kansas’ market could feel an impact, though it remains unclear how much competition it would bring.
December 2024 saw Kansas post a handle of $261.3 million, meaning January’s numbers marked an increase.
