The North Carolina State Lottery Commission recently released October 2024 sports betting figures, highlighting over $612 million in wagers placed by state bettors. This substantial increase, nearly $35 million more than September, underscores the strong engagement from players since sports betting became legal in March.
October brought significant payouts, with players securing $560.6 million in winnings. Promotional bets added close to $23 million in revenue, while the total gross revenue from sports betting reached $48.7 million for the month. Additionally, the state gained close to $8.7 million in tax revenue, contributing to North Carolina’s public funds.
North Carolina’s sports betting market has grown steadily since joining over 35 states that offer legal sports betting. Since its launch, the state’s handle has exceeded $1.89 billion, reflecting strong public interest and participation.
Before launching, the North Carolina State Lottery Commission issued sports wagering licenses to eight operators, setting the stage for both online and in-person betting. The state’s regulations permit up to 12 interactive sports betting licenses, creating room for further expansion. Under these rules, North Carolinians have access to a range of wagering options.
Looking ahead, North Carolina’s sports betting market is poised for additional growth, with plans to potentially license more operators and provide broader access to mobile and interactive betting.
