New York bettors pushed the state to a new milestone in August 2025, with the sports wagering handle crossing $2 billion for only the second time this year. Meanwhile, casino revenue also showed growth, reinforcing New York’s position as one of the most dynamic gambling markets in the U.S.
Good to Know
The $2 billion handle marked a 41.9% increase year-over-year and a 45.9% month-over-month jump. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) from sports betting totaled $178.2 million, representing a 42.6% YoY increase and 14.5% growth from July.
FanDuel topped the revenue list with $66.9 million, while DraftKings was close behind at $62.3 million. Interestingly, DraftKings’ handle of $579.6 million edged out FanDuel’s $561.9 million, showing a competitive balance between the two giants.
Fanatics Sportsbook set a new monthly high with a $565.8 million handle, beating FanDuel in total wagers. However, its hold percentage was much lower, generating only $16.1 million in GGR—just 2.9%. Much of the action was driven by a single high-roller, who reportedly wagered nearly $120 million in one week.
