The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) recently revealed the state’s financial data for October 2024, demonstrating considerable growth in iGaming revenues, while sports betting witnessed a minor dip. The combined gross receipts of the commercial and Tribal operators of the Wolverine State came to $253.7 million. Despite a slight 2.8% decline from September 2024, this indicates a 23.6% year-over-year rise.
iGaming in Michigan set a new record with a substantial $220.7 million in gross receipts. This figure reflects a 37.7% increase compared to October 2023, surpassing the previous high of $215.2 million recorded in March 2024. On the other hand, sports betting gross receipts totaled $33 million, showing a 25% decrease from the previous month.
Despite this drop in sports betting, the overall adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for October reached $208.5 million, up 24.3% from the same time last year. A large portion of this growth came from iGaming, which accounted for $198.6 million, a remarkable 37.7% increase compared to October 2023. However, sports betting saw a decline in AGR, with $9.9 million reported for October, down from $23.5 million last year.
Online sports betting handle increased but sports betting receipts decreased. The total handle increased 5.1% year over year to $560.4 million. This indicates that even though gross earnings may have decreased, more Michigan gamblers are using online sports betting sites.
These financial figures show that Michigan’s iGaming industry is still expanding, with iGaming earnings leading the way despite some difficulties in sports betting. As the state’s gambling sector develops over the next few months, operators are probably going to change their tactics.
