Maryland Lottery and Gaming has set a new benchmark in sports betting with a record-breaking handle and state contributions for November 2024. The state saw an impressive $639.9 million wagered, surpassing October’s record of $593.1 million by 7.9%.
November’s sports betting activities generated nearly $11.8 million in state contributions, the highest monthly total since sports wagering began in Maryland in December 2021. These funds are allocated to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs. The previous peak contribution was $9.4 million in September 2024.
Mobile betting led the charge, accounting for over $621 million of the total handle, while retail sportsbooks contributed close to $18.9 million. In total, players claimed $557.5 million in winnings, with online wagers distributing $540.6 million back to bettors.
Online sports betting proved a major driver for state revenue, generating $80.4 million in hold. Retail sports betting added another $1.4 million to the state’s coffers during the same period. Maryland currently offers 11 mobile sports wagering platforms and 12 retail sportsbook locations, providing ample opportunities for participation.
Since the launch of sports betting in 2021, over $128.5 million has been funneled into the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund. Additionally, $3.6 million from expired prizes has supported the Problem Gambling Fund, highlighting the state’s commitment to addressing gambling-related issues.
Maryland’s continued growth in sports betting showcases the sector’s potential to boost public funds while offering an engaging platform for residents.
