Las Vegas Gambler Appeals Over Betting Dispute with William Hill Sportsbook

Share

Due to a successful wager on a 2023 Australian golf tournament, a Las Vegas bettor has brought his disagreement with William Hill Sportsbook to the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The customer says he is entitled a lot more than what was paid, according to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Bettor Disputes Reduced Payout

The gambler placed a $200 bet at long odds of +20000, expecting a payout of $40,200. However, William Hill only paid $1,000, claiming the odds were posted in error. The bettor, who kept his bet sheets as proof, believes he is entitled to the full amount. He argues that his winning bet was downgraded to odds of +400 without justification, significantly reducing his payout.

The player stated that William Hill substituted his winning ticket based on the corrected odds and explained the discrepancy as an error in the initial odds posted for the event.

In response, William Hill defended its decision, citing “obvious errors” in setting the odds. The sportsbook referenced its house rules, which allow the correction of odds in the event of a mistake. A notice posted by William Hill explains their right to adjust wagers when incorrect odds are offered, pending regulatory approval.

The statement from William Hill reads, “We reserve the right, pending regulatory approval, to correct any obvious error made on a wager placed in one of our betting Live markets and settle at the correct odds or terms.”

At this time, Nevada state regulators have not reached a decision regarding the case, and the outcome remains pending.
