Australian official Steven Nguyen and former player David Gorsic of Slovenia have been sanctioned by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP). Both acknowledged placing bets on tennis during the times when TACP rules applied to them.

Tennis bettor David Gorsic, who reached his highest position of 1,399 in the world in 2015, acknowledged that he wagered on the sport in 2017 and 2018. As a result, he will serve three of the six months of his suspension without pay. Gorsic will thus be unable to take part in any tennis-related events from May 21 to August 20. He has also been fined $5,000, of which $3,500 is suspended.

Nguyen Receives Three-Month Suspension

Steven Nguyen, an inactive Australian official who has officiated at various ITF junior, wheelchair, and W25 events, confessed to betting on tennis between 2021 and 2023. His sanction includes a three-month suspension from May 23 to August 22 and a $2,000 fine, of which $1,400 is suspended.

The ITIA confirmed that during their suspension periods, both Gorsic and Nguyen are prohibited from officiating at or attending any tennis events authorized by ITIA members. This underscores the ITIA’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the sport by enforcing strict anti-corruption measures.

Simon Martyn, Director of Integrity and Rights Enforcement at Genius Sports, emphasized the significance of cooperation in combating match-fixing and betting-related corruption. “Cooperation and the sharing of information are vital pillars to safeguarding the global sports industry from the threats of match-fixing and betting-related corruption.”
