Leaders in Latin America have been urged by the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) to step up efforts to create a strong framework for sports betting integrity in order to effectively combat match-fixing.

IBIA stressed in a recent statement how crucial it is to have a robust integrity ecosystem in Latin America. As part of the new legislation, registered sports betting businesses must now be members of an independent integrity monitoring body. This was emphasized by the association.

Impact of Match-Fixing in Brazil

IBIA highlighted the detrimental effects of match-fixing on the Brazilian betting market and sports industry. The organization welcomed the introduction of Ordinance 827/2024, emphasizing its role in addressing integrity concerns through enhanced reporting requirements.

“The adverse impact of match-fixing on the Brazilian betting market and sport continues to be an issue of significant importance. IBIA therefore welcomes the recent publication of Ordinance 827/2024 and its integrity reporting requirements as a vital step towards addressing any integrity concerns,” stated IBIA.

The group added that it had reported 127 incidents to the appropriate authorities in Latin America during the previous five years, demonstrating its proactive role in keeping an eye on questionable betting activity in the region.

With more than 50 members and more than 125 betting brands represented globally, IBIA runs a global integrity network. In order to fight corruption and preserve integrity standards in the sector, the association helps operators work together.

Presently, more than 60% of Brazil’s remote gambling market is covered by IBIA’s membership, demonstrating the organization’s major impact on encouraging honest and open sports betting procedures in the area.
