A new collaboration has formed between the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the African iGaming Alliance (AIA), aimed at strengthening integrity protections across the fast-growing betting sector of Africa. Both organizations represent licensed betting operators, and the memorandum of understanding sets the stage for shared policy work, coordinated outreach, and information exchange to prevent match-fixing and support responsible betting environments.
Good to Know
The agreement brings together IBIA, which monitors regulated betting markets worldwide, and AIA, which focuses on industry development and policy coordination across the continent. AIA will work closely with IBIA on regulatory discussions in various national markets, while IBIA will provide betting integrity tools, research data, and alerts to help safeguard competitions and licensed operators.
Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, CEO of AIA, introduced the partnership by highlighting the importance of trust in the sector. He said:
“Integrity is the foundation of Africa’s betting future. This partnership between the AIA and IBIA represents a decisive step towards ensuring that Africa’s growing betting industry is anchored on trust, transparency, and accountability. As a pan-African industry platform, AIA is committed to working with global integrity leaders like IBIA to harmonise standards, promote responsible gaming, and support regulators in safeguarding markets from manipulation and illicit practices. Together, we can strengthen Africa’s credibility as a world-class, igaming frontier.”
IBIA CEO Khalid Ali noted that the betting market of Africa continues to expand and requires strong oversight. He said:
“Africa represents one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing betting markets in the world. Ensuring that this growth is underpinned by robust sports betting integrity standards and effective regulation is essential. Our partnership with the African iGaming Alliance reinforces our shared commitment to supporting a sustainable, well-regulated African betting industry that safeguards consumers and sporting competitions alike.”
IBIA reported 131 suspicious betting alerts tied to African sporting events from 2020 through Q3 2025. Football accounted for 64 alerts and tennis for 62, indicating where integrity risks have historically been concentrated. Both organizations plan to use data insights like these to help regulators evaluate risks, improve oversight, and reinforce legal operator frameworks across the continent.
The collaboration focuses on coordinated policy work, integrity protections, and anti-match-fixing efforts supporting regulated betting operators in the region.
IBIA will serve as the strategic betting integrity partner, while AIA will take the lead on regulatory engagement and policy coordination.
Growth of regulated betting, coupled with rising sports interest, has increased the need for monitoring and cooperation to prevent match manipulation and protect consumers.
