Brazilian striker Bruno Henrique is facing accusations linked to a match-fixing investigation involving suspicious betting patterns. The Federal Police have formally indicted the Flamengo forward, pointing to a yellow card incident during a 2023 match against Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro as the focus of their case.
Good to know
Before that match, operators like Betano, GaleraBet, and KTO noticed something strange. A massive share of the bets—more than 95%—were placed on the possibility of Bruno Henrique receiving a yellow card. Betano reported that 98% of its bets related to that match had been focused on that single outcome.
On the day you gave me the yellow card idea, I bet 3,000 to win 12,000.
As the investigation progressed, attention turned to Wander Nunes Pinto Júnior, Bruno Henrique’s brother. He had placed several bets on that same yellow card event. One of his bets, flagged for suspicious behavior, was eventually blocked by the operator before any funds could be withdrawn.
Investigators then accessed messages on Wander’s phone. Some exchanges suggested he may have received inside information before placing those bets. In one text, Wander told Bruno, “On the day you gave me the yellow card idea, I bet 3,000 to win 12,000.” That message, among others, raised red flags for investigators.
In another message, Wander asked for R$4,000 and mentioned the blocked payout. Bruno Henrique didn’t clearly respond to the questions, and while his replies were vague, authorities believe the conversation shows signs of coordination between the two.
The Federal Police reviewed nearly 4,000 chats on Bruno Henrique’s own phone. Many were empty or had been erased, leading to suspicions that relevant data might have been deliberately deleted. Despite the limited findings from the player’s device, the WhatsApp conversations on Wander’s phone played a key role in the decision to proceed with charges.
As of now, no trial date has been confirmed. The case remains in the hands of the Federal Police as further evidence is being considered.
